Trek the Larapinta Trail - tours aimed at a mature market of travellers (40+) and have been designed to offer the creature comforts this age group desires, as well as offering walking options on the more challenging days of the trail, to suit a variety of fitness levels. You will experience an ideal combination of 2 nights camping and 2 nights accommodatoin. On nights 1 and 2 you will enjoy a camping experience with walk-in touring tents, off the ground beds and deluxe camping mattresses, a hot bush shower and hot water bottles if required (no swags for us). Then when you will appreciate comfortable hotel accommodation the most, we offer the last 2 nights at the historic Glen Helen Homestead which overlooks the magnificent Glen Helen Gorge. Enjoy the fantastic facilities of this great homestead including a swimming pool and waterhole, a la carte meals in the restaurant featuring wonderful local produce (included in your package), evening entertainment and reserve cycle air conditioning. Your overnight bags will be transported for you, leaving you free to walk with just a small day pack. All transfers will be done in an air conditioned 4WD bus. All this combines to provide a wonderful Larapinta walking experience with all the creature comforts at an affordable price. Our walk captures the best the Larapinta Trail has to offer. The Larapinta Trail was voted by National Geographic as one of the top 20 trekking experiences to be had on the planet. The Larapinta Trail Walk offers over 600 species of plants, amazing natural beauty including magnificent gorges, canyons and high ridges, abundant wildlife and a glimpses of the longest continuous cultural history in the world, the Arrente People whom have been in the region for the last 50,000 years.

Pricing

For solo travellers: if you would like a tent on your own, a surcharge will apply. When there are a number of solo travellers in the same group, you may be required to share a tent with someone of the same gender. If there are not other single travellers of the same gender on your departure date, you will have the tent on your own.

Itinerary

The below itinerary can change due to tides and weather.

Day 1

Alice Springs

7:30am

Our day starts in Alice Springs at the Aurora Hotel at 7.30am where you will meet your guides for a pre-tour briefing.

Stanley Chasm

We then head to Stanley Chasm; a must see highlight of the Larapinta.

Ellery Creek

We then travel to Ellery Creek big hole for a quick stroll for morning tea enjoying the surrounds with a quiet cuppa.

Ormiston Gorge

We travel to Ormiston Gorge, a must see highlight.

West MacDonnell Ranges National Park

Enjoy a beautiful and spectacular walk up to high escarpment of the West MacDonnell Ranges National Park, before heading to your campsite.

Day 2

Mount Sonder

We start the day early so we can enjoy a glorious walk to Mt. Sonder. (For those not up to conquering Mt. Sonder, we offer an alternative easier walk day.)

Day 3

Red Mallee Forest

Our walk today starts with a magnificent Red Mallee forest.

Finke River

We descend over gently undulating terrain when we come to the junction of Ormiston and Davenport creeks which is the start of the famous Finke River.

Glen Helen Homestead

An easy walk leads to the oasis of the Historic Glen Helen Homestead, our accommodation for the next two nights.

Glen Helen Gorge

We take a quick stroll to Glen Helen Gorge for an insight on the history and ecology of this unique area, or take a swim in the pool.

Day 4

Eagle Landing

Today we walk section 8 of the Larapinta trail by climbing to Eagle Landing.

Counts Point

We then continue on to Counts Point, with a vantage point offering a wonderful opportunity to see the overall geology of the ranges.

Serpentine Gorge

After lunch we descend into the plains to the end of our days walk at Serpentine Gorge chalet.

Glen Helen Homestead

We then transfer back to our hotel accommodation at Glen Helen Homestead.

Ochre Pits

Today we hike to the Ochre Pits, that are still used by traditional land owners.

Day 5

Inarlanga Groge

We then enter into the Inarlanga Gorge, a ceremonial place for the Western Arrente people for thousands of years.

Alice Springs

5:30pm

Travel back to Alice Springs for a celebratory drink; the end of a fantastic journey.
